PT PLN (Persero), through PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), signed four gas and LNG sales and purchase agreements. This step strengthens national energy security.

The agreements were signed through four strategic partnerships with national and international oil and gas industry players at the 50th Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention & Exhibition (IPA Convex) 2026, held at the Nusantara Hall, ICE BSD City.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that PLN is no longer just selling electricity, but is transforming into a digital-based energy company through the orchestration of primary energy ecosystems, generation, and customer service.

"PLN continues to support gas field development by becoming a long-term buyer to ensure the economic viability of upstream oil and gas. The sustainability of the gas industry is crucial in ensuring reliable, efficient, and greener electricity supply," Darmawan said in a statement in Jakarta, Friday (May 22, 2026).

PLN EPI signed two LNG Sales and Purchase Agreements (LNG) and two Gas Sales and Purchase Agreements (PJBG) to ensure long-term gas supply for the PLN Group.

PLN EPI signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with South Hub LNG. The LNG supply will come from the Muara Bakau, East Sepinggan, Ganal, and West Ganal working areas for the 2027–2037 period, with a total agreed volume of 11 MT, or approximately 190 LNG cargoes.

In addition, PLN EPI also signed an LNG Heads of Agreement (HoA) with Masela PSC Contractor Parties for a 15-year contract, starting from the project's Commercial Operation Date (COD) in approximately 2032, with a total volume of 37.5 MT, equivalent to 640 LNG cargoes.

PLN Energi Primer Indonesia President Director Rakhmad Dewanto stated that the signing of this long-term LNG contract is part of the company's strategy to ensure reliable primary energy supply for power plants while supporting the transition to gas-based energy.

"The signing of these two long-term LNG sales and purchase contracts ensures an additional 48.5 million tons, or approximately 840 LNG cargoes, for the 2027-2047 period to support the national energy transition and security," said Rakhmad.

In line with PLN's strategic role as the national energy orchestrator, this agreement will support the development of national gas production as part of national energy security.

"With an estimated transaction value of IDR 360 trillion, this agreement will pave the way for the development of new gas fields, including the Masela gas field in Maluku and the Muara Bakau, East Sepinggan, Ganal, and West Ganal gas fields in East Kalimantan. The collaboration between PLN EPI and gas producers is a concrete step towards strengthening national energy security," added Rakhmad.

In addition to the two LNG contracts, PLN EPI also signed a GSA with Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited (SIPL) to supply 7-10 MMSCFD of gas to the Gresik Combined Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) for the 2026–2029 period, and an amendment to the GSA with PT Pertamina (Persero) to meet the needs of the Tanjung Batu and Bontang power plants. This GSA amendment was made to accommodate the gas allocation determination from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources without changing the volume or price.

"PLN EPI continues to strengthen reliable and competitive primary energy supply sources to ensure sustainable power generation needs are met while supporting national energy security," said Rakhmad.

By strengthening domestic gas and global LNG cooperation, PLN EPI continues to strengthen the reliability of primary energy supply for national power plants while supporting the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable, and more competitive energy system.
