INPEX Masela, Ltd. officially received Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) approval from the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Environment on Friday, February 13, 2026. This approval marks a significant milestone in the development of the Abadi LNG Project, which has been designated a National Strategic Project (PSN).

The AMDAL document includes a commitment to implementing environmental and social management and monitoring as part of the development of a large-scale oil and gas project in the Masela Working Area.

With the approval of the AMDAL, the project is deemed to have met environmental protection requirements in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

President Director of INPEX Masela, Ltd., Kenji Hasegawa, expressed his appreciation for the support of the Indonesian Government in the approval process. He emphasized that the AMDAL approval represents a strategic milestone in the long development journey of the Abadi LNG Project.

"We warmly welcome the AMDAL approval and express our highest appreciation to the Indonesian Government, especially the Ministry of Environment. This is a very important achievement for the continuation of the Abadi LNG Project," said Hasegawa.

The Abadi LNG Project's Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was prepared comprehensively and includes the Terms of Reference for the Environmental Impact Analysis (KA-ANDAL), the Environmental Impact Analysis (ANDAL), and the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL). The development process has been ongoing since 2019, involving various stakeholders, including relevant ministries/agencies and local governments.

Entering 2026, INPEX Masela has also successfully secured several other strategic permits. These include the Forest Area Release Approval (PPKH) issued by the Ministry of Forestry on January 7, 2026, and the Conformity of Spatial Utilization Activities (KKPR) approval from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) on February 6, 2026.

This series of approvals further strengthens the project development plan's compliance with spatial planning and land management, while also reflecting intensive coordination between INPEX and the central government, local governments, and other stakeholders.

The Abadi LNG Project is located approximately 170-180 kilometers southwest of the Tanimbar Islands Regency, with a contract area of approximately 2,503 square kilometers at a sea depth of 400-800 meters. The project has a total natural gas production capacity of 10.5 million tons per year of LNG equivalent, including approximately 9.5 million tons of LNG per year, domestic pipeline gas supply, and condensate production of approximately 35,000 barrels per day.

In the ownership structure, INPEX Masela, Ltd. holds 65 percent of the shares and acts as operator. The remaining 20 percent is held by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela and 15 percent by PETRONAS Masela Sdn. Bhd.

The Abadi LNG Project has been designated a National Strategic Project by the Indonesian Government since June 2017 and was included in the list of national priority infrastructure projects in September 2017.

The government has high hopes that this project will contribute significantly to national energy security, economic growth, and the development of eastern Indonesia.
