IndoGas & Power 2023

13-14 June 2023, The Westin Hotel-Jakarta

The 10th IndoGAS & Power 2023 marked the conference's return after the pandemic, expanding its scope to cover the power sector under the theme "Indonesian Gas - Bridge to a Sustainable Future". The event highlighted that natural gas plays a vital role in meeting Indonesia's energy needs and supporting economic growth, serving as a critical bridge in the energy transition toward Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Industry experts emphasized that gas will remain significant for the next decade, acting as a cleaner fossil fuel with 30-50% fewer emissions compared to coal.

Regarding supply and demand dynamics, energy demand is projected to increase by 15% by 2050, with 55% of this need still being met by oil and gas. In the power sector, gas and LNG are strategically positioned to substitute fuel/diesel and coal in the short term, while complementing the development of renewable energy in the mid-term. To support this transition, new gas-fired power plants totaling 5.8 GW are expected to require more than 1 BCFD or over 5 million tons of LNG by the end of 2030.

Infrastructure development remains a central challenge and priority to connect supply with demand across Indonesia's archipelago. While progress is evident in projects like the Cirebon-Semarang and Dumai Sei-Mangke pipelines, as well as LNG regasification terminals in various clusters, stakeholders noted that development must be scaled up. To facilitate this, the government is reviewing regulations and fiscal policies to improve project economics and attract more upstream investment.
