The national upstream oil and gas sector has once again made history. In 2026, the value of goods and services procurement in this strategic sector reached an all-time high of USD 51.353 billion, equivalent to more than IDR 860 trillion.
The Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, announced the news on Sunday, February 1, 2026, calling this achievement very good news for the national economy.
"In 2026, the upstream oil and gas sector again set a new record with the largest procurement value of goods and services compared to previous years," said Djoko.
Giant Projects Become Main Supporters
The largest contribution to the procurement value came from two world-class oil and gas projects. First, the Inpex Masela LNG project in the Arafura Sea, Maluku, which is known as one of the largest LNG projects in the Asia Pacific region. Second, the Geng North & Gendalo Gendang LNG development in the Kutai Basin, Kalimantan.
Based on various sources, the total investment value of these projects is estimated to absorb hundreds of thousands of workers, both directly and indirectly, from the construction phase to operations.
This surge in procurement value also dispels the notion that Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector is entering a sunset phase. Instead, Djoko believes the latest investment surge actually marks the sector's revival as a sunrise industry.
"After previously thinking that the upstream oil and gas sector had entered a period of decline, now this sector is resurfacing and emerging like a sunrise on the eastern horizon," he emphasized.
As part of strengthening governance and transparency, Djoko added that starting next week, the public and business actors will be able to monitor procurement activities through the Centralized Integrated Vendors Database (CIVD) of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas).
"God willing, the public will be able to view this openly through the CIVD of SKK Migas. Please pray that the entire process runs smoothly, safely, and securely," Djoko concluded.
This achievement is expected to not only strengthen national energy security but also drive the economy, create jobs, and encourage the growth of supporting oil and gas industries domestically.
