Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that Indonesia’s LNG supply is sufficient to cover both domestic needs and contracted export commitments throughout the first half of 2026, and the government expects no disruptions during this period.

He added that arrangements for the second half of 2026 are still being finalized, with the government continuing detailed supply calculations and preparing regulatory mechanisms to manage LNG availability after June. This planning is informed by Indonesia’s 2025 LNG stock management experience, when the country was able to meet national demand without importing LNG.

As context, the government initially projected a domestic LNG shortfall of around 50 cargoes in early 2025 due to higher-than-expected demand, while some LNG producers had already secured export contracts during the project planning or plan of development stage when the domestic market could not absorb total output. Bahlil said the 2026 approach reflects lessons from 2025, including ongoing coordination with established offtakers, and a mechanism is being designed for the period after July 2026.
