PGN says it is using digital systems to keep Indonesia’s natural gas distribution reliable, especially at critical nodes like Gas Station Pagardewa, which regulates pressure and transmission capacity in supplying power, commercial, and industrial customers. The station supports the 1,004 km South Sumatera–West Java (SSWJ) transmission system, and PGN highlights operational upgrades (compressors, metering, and jumperlines that increase linepack capacity) to keep supply stable from Sumatra and Lampung through western Java. To protect asset integrity, PGN also applies risk-based maintenance and inspections, supported by an Integrated Monitoring Center (IMOC) that provides real-time visibility into infrastructure condition, customer data, and gas trading activity, enabling faster and more measurable operational decisions.

Beyond real-time monitoring, PGN positions digitalization as part of a broader reliability-and-flexibility push, including strengthening infrastructure and leveraging LNG to improve supply resilience. The company links this to its Grow–Adapt–Step Out (G-A-S) business strategy, which includes programs such as expanding household gas networks, building the Cikampek–Plumpang fuel pipeline, revitalizing the LNG Arun tank, and developing injection points for biomethane. The key message is that operational reliability is being pursued alongside efficiency and long-term sustainability, with infrastructure investments designed to keep gas delivery secure while adding optionality in how and where gas is supplied.

The article also frames gas as a strategic “bridge fuel” in Indonesia’s transition toward Net Zero Emission 2060, noting policy momentum to reduce reliance on coal while increasing gas utilization for power and industry. PGN says it manages around 95% of Indonesia’s downstream gas infrastructure, serving 17 provinces and 74 regencies/cities, and argues that meeting rising demand requires stronger and more integrated infrastructure because supply sources are often far from consumption centers and infrastructure economics can be challenging. PGN describes integration on two fronts: physical interconnection of pipeline segments and operational integration of transmission and regasification, complemented by “beyond pipeline” solutions tailored to western vs eastern Indonesia, with collaboration across government, suppliers, and other pipeline operators to raise national supply reliability.
